Renewable Boom
The world has witnessed an unprecedented growth in renewable energy capacities over the past decade, with solar energy being the forerunner. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), solar energy accounts for nearly 40% of the total renewable energy capacity added worldwide.
This surge is attributed to declining technology costs and governments' increasing emphasis on clean energy. Dr.
Fatih Birol, IEA's Executive Director, stated, 'The solar industry has made tremendous strides in recent years, and we expect this trend to continue, driven by technological advancements and policy support.' Countries like China and the United States have been at the forefront of this transition, with China investing over $100 billion in renewable energy projects in 2022 alone.
However, despite this progress, the industry still faces significant challenges, including energy storage and grid integration, which need to be addressed to ensure a seamless transition to a low-carbon economy.
